Scones

Method

Preparation:  10 minutes

Cooking:  15 minutes

Servings:  10 Scones

Cost per serving: 3p

Ingredients:

 225g   Self Raising flour

55g  Butter

Pinch Salt

25g  Caster Sugar

150ml Milk

   1 Egg (or splash of milk)

1. Heat the Oven to 200° C

Lightly grease a baking sheet.

2. Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter.

Stir in the sugar and then the milk to get a soft dough.

3. Put on a floured work surface & knead very lightly. Pat out to a round 2cm/¾in thick. Use a 5cm/2in cutter to stamp out rounds & place on the baking sheet.


200C Fan

(12-15 minutes)

4. Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg(or splash of milk).

Bake for 12-15 minutes until well risen and golden.

Cool on a wire rack and serve with butter and jam or maybe some clotted cream.
