Post this list on your fridge next to the photo of you in your “skinny jeans” and make a copy to bring with you the next time you shop for groceries. Just remember: Calories count, portion control rules and there’s no substitute for a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. So get moving!

How to Increase Metabolism

1. Water! A new study seems to indicate that drinking water actually speeds up weight loss and is a great way how to increase metabolism. Researchers in Germany found that subjects of the study increased their metabolic rates (the rate at which calories are burned) by 30 percent after drinking approximately 17 ounces of water. Water is also a natural appetite suppressant that banishes bloat as it flushes out sodium and toxins. Drinking enough water will also help keep you from mistaking thirst for hunger. So drink up! Make sure that you are starting your day with a big big glass of water and drink throughout the day not just all at one time.

2. Green Tea! Studies show that green tea extracts boost metabolism and may aid in weight loss. This mood-enhancing tea has also been reported to contain anti-cancer properties and help prevent heart disease. It’s also a trendy drink among weight-conscious celebrities. You may Have already seen my green tea articles but this may be one really fantastic herb and it tastes nice too!

3. Soup! Eat less and burn fat faster by having a bowl of soup as an appetizer or a snack. According to a Penn State University study, soup is a super appetite suppressant because it’s made up of a hunger-satisfying combination of liquids and solids. In the study, women chose one of three 270-calorie snacks before lunch. Women who had chicken and rice soup as a snack consumed a n average of 100 fewer calories than those in the study who opted for a chicken and rice casserole or the casserole and a glass of water. I used to joke that soup is not a meal but it really dies fill you for very few calories and remember that when you eat a food with a lot of taste it really will satisfy.

4. Grapefruit! The grapefruit diet is not a myth. Researchers at Scripps Clinic found that participants who ate half a grapefruit with each meal in a 12-week period lost an average of 3.6 pounds. The study indicates that the unique chemical properties in this vitamin C-packed citrus fruit reduce insulin levels, which promotes weight loss and boost metabolism. NOTE: If you are taking medication, check with your doctor about any potentially adverse interactions with grapefruit. Grapefruit, because of the soft peel is a nice alternative to an apple of orange and study after study of the last 30 years has shown that it can really help burn fat.

5. Apples and Pears! Overweight women who ate the equivalent of three small apples or pears a day lost more weight on a low-calorie diet than women who didn’t add fruit to their diet, according to re searchers from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Fruit eaters also ate fewer calories overall. So next time you need to satisfy a sugar craving, reach for this low-calorie, high-fiber snack. You’ll feel full longer and eat less.

6. Broccoli! Study after study links calcium and weight loss. Broccoli is not only high in calcium, but also loaded with vitamin C, which boosts calcium absorption. This member of the nutritious cabbage family also has plenty of vitamin A, folate and fiber. And, at just 20-calories per cup, this weight-loss superfood not only fights fat but also contains powerful phytochemicals that boost your immunity and protect against disease.

7. Low-Fat Yogurt! Dairy products can boost weight loss efforts, according to a study in the April issue of Obesity Research. People on a reduced-calorie diet who included three to four servings of dairy foods lost significantly more weight than those who ate a low-dairy diet containing the same number of calories. Low-fat yogurt is a rich source of weight-loss-friendly calcium, providing about 450 mg (about half the recommended daily allowance for women ages 19-50) per 8-ounce serving, as well as 12 grams of protein. As far as superfood go Yogurt is right there. It includes calcium, protein and a ton of other nutrients as well as good bacteria and probiotics for you digestive tract.

8. Lean Turkey! Rev up your fat-burning engine with this bodybuilder favorite. Countless studies have shown that protein can help boost metabolism, lose fat and build lean muscle tissue so you burn more calories. A 3-ounce serving of boneless, skinless lean turkey breast weighs in at 120 calories and provides 26 grams of appetite-curbing protein, 1 gram of fat and 0 grams of saturated fat. With the price of chicken going up and up these days Turkey has become a great alternative. Remember that Turkey is a little tougher than chicken and the taste is a little different but it is not just for Thanksgiving and Christmas anymore.

9. Oatmeal! This heart-healthy favorite ranks high on the good carb list, because it’s a good source of cholesterol-fighting, fat-soluble fiber (7 grams per 3/4-cup serving) that keeps you full and provides you with the energy you need to make the most of your workouts. Just be sure to choose steel cut or rolled oats, not instant oatmeal, to get your full dose of vitamins, minerals and fiber. For many years now Pro Bodybuilders have relied on Oatmeal as a staple of their breakfast, it is amazingly high in nutrients.

10. Hot Peppers! Eating hot peppers can speed up and boost metabolism and cool your cravings, researchers at Laval University in Canada found. Hey Everyone,

Im a competing sports model and personal trainer and every few months before competition my diet becomes strict but it works because if it doesn’t it means no competiton and a lot of wasted money. It also means having to get up in front of hundreads in a bikini being judged on your body.. So i’m giving you all my best tips in loosing weight.

    DIET
    - eating less will mean you’ll loose weight in the short term but not in the long term so its a big no no.
    - eat every 2 hours: eating every two hours keep your digestion working therefore increasing your metabolism.
    - For every 25kgs that you weigh, you must drink one litre of water (its a lot but it works)
    - Cutting out carbs, sugar and fat does work you just might feel a little out of it but if you want to loose the weight..
    - No alcohol! 9 calories per gram of alcohol which is more than fat, carbs and sugar..
    - Okay so everyone knows its the lean meats that work fish and chicken so eat up :)
    - vegetables easiest is lettuce, carrot, celery but whatever you like not potato, you can eat sweet potato but not past 12.
    - So eating every 2 hours can be hard for some people so have little snacks almonds, nuts, rice crackers (limit these) organic peanut butter or almond spread can go on these but dont eat to many.

    EXCERCISE
Excercise is important and for those that don’t go to the gym the best cardio to loose weight is a fast pace walk. If you have a treadmill at home put it on incline set the speed to a comfortable pace where you will still be able to keep a conversation without puffing..If your puffing your usin the wrong body system (aerobic, anaerobic) If you want to learn more on the different body systems its worth looking up <<.
For those who are only starting doing excercise keep it down to half an hour and as you get fitter go for longer.

    SHORT TIPS
    - Dont eat after 7 if you have to keep the carbs very low.. egg whites yums usually kill the cravings :)
    - If your craving sugar like I do always at about 4-5 during the day I have a little protein bar call low-carbs they are yum and will hopefully kill the craving or munch on some strawberries.
    - Breaskfast can be carbs :) so muesli, oats, whole meal toast.
    - Carbs causes bloating in women so if you get bloating easily its probably the rice, pasta or bread.
    - Focus on green vegetables! great for metabolism.
    - my meals consist of a small can of tuna, corn for fibre and mixed vegetables.
    - Everytime you eat sugar just remember your setting yourself back further from your goal.

I hope this helps and goodluck to everyone :)

Hi, Im 12 years old, and i have really muscular legs, but my stomach sticks out, and im not focused on my number on the scale, i just want to look thinner, and toned too. And i NEED this to happen in a month.I started this little weight loss expedition because the girls at my dance school make fun of me, and it makes me a little frustrated. Please reply to this asap!!! i need to start shedding of the fat btw- i dance three days a week, and a take gymnastics for an hour a week. HELp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

    • MSTCLAIR says:

      Hi Marie,
Being 12 is tough for any girl…and comparing yourself to everyone else is only going to result in your feeling sadder about how you look. You are unique, beautifully made by God, and there is no one like you!! You will still grow taller, leaner, and change a LOT in the next 8 years – so if you make friends with yourself now and decide your stomach is NOT an enemy, you will probably find it won’t be as important to change it after all. I am guessing that everyone else (not the girls at the dance studio) thinks you are beautiful!
From one formerly ackward teen herself, here are some ideas to change: 1) Decide that your stomach isn’t so important and you can be beautiful no matter what a small group of girls thinks. 2) Take good care of eating lots of healthy foods (your mom or doctor or teacher can give you ideas). Don’t avoid eating, that only makes you sick and can lead to feeling sad or depressed about yourself. 3) Learn how to make food a tool to reach your most outward and innermost beauty! 4) Find other friends that like you just as you are. There will always be girls bigger and smaller than you – you are unique, no one like you!.

I tried using this techniques but they helped me a little is there some kind of balancing i can do with these tips to make it more effective?

Don’t want to seem like I’m being nasty, but anyone who can find this thread and post on it also has the skills to search the web for healthy weight loss information (if they’ve managed to miss it until now). Why are so many people posting the same basic message of “I eat badly and don’t exercise, and don’t know what to do – please help!”? I know following a healthy diet and exercising is not easy to do – but it is easy to know what you should do.

    Hi,
A useful tips for all of those people who have a “sweet tooth” like me, a little tip I used to fight of cravings was everytime I felt like having something sugary I’d either brush my teeth, have breath mint, use one of those fresh breath strips that melt on your tounge or chew calorie free gum. That way if you do cave in the sweet snack is going tot aste horrible and the chances of you enjoying it are less.
    Hope it helps some people.’

Hi im 13 years old and im applying for high schools but as a ballet dancer i inevitably want to become a professional when i grow up, but to do that i have to be in a professional schooling program. The problem is, is that i have a skinny torso (abs, muscular legs,etc..) but i have these HUGE thighs that consist of large bones, bulky muscles and alot of fat, its like all my fat goes directly to my thighs, and people think that im fat BECAUSE of my thigs. I just need some help finding ways to get skinnier thighs, i work out alot, i do yoga and alot of other stuff but i just cant loose weight i dont eat alot either, i dont know whats wrong with me, and i have been dancing all my life so obviously the myth that all dancers have long lean muscles or “a ballerinas body” isnt true please help my auditions are all in january febuary and march

    • Britney says:

It’s just your body type, there is nothing wrong with you. Trust me, I am also a dancer and gain all of my weight in my thighs. You just have to accept your body, I understand that it can be annoying when everyone around seems to have the same body types and yours is different. Don’t even worry about it; your in very good shape, your a dancer. You should not let that get in the way of your passion and what you want to become. Just make sure your eating healthy. You could work out all you want, if your diet is not in check you won’t see results. Add more protein to your diet, lean meats, fish, egg whites. Make sure your getting both fruit and veggies into your meals and whole grains. Your could try making your own smoothies for breakfast, snacking throughout they day(keeps your metabolism going.) Cut out foods that have high fructose corn syrup and enriched anything. Get plenty of sleep and try to set a time you go to bed every night so that your body can get adjusted to a schedule. These are all things that contribute to a healthy weight. Stay focused on your dream and good luck:)

    hi,
i’m 23 and am almost 175 lbs. I used to be really skinny when i was a kid. Then i developed the habbit of unhealthy snacking in the evening after lunch, when i was in high school. because of that i gained weight and developed the urge to snack. once i started university i lost lots of pounds. i got all skinny again and stayed that way for almost 2-3 years. then i stared eating alot of junk food again. and gained a whole lot of weight.
after getting overweight (almost 40 lbs) i really wanted to loose weight, so joined aerobics. but didnt work out well. may be coz i wasnt determined enough. joined gym twice. it doesnt work out. i dont loose weight and then i loose interest. i really wanna loose weight but i just cant control myself with junk food now. i donno what to do. i try to be dedicated to it. just cnt control the craving. can you please give me some tips to stay on track, avoid craving, some healthy food options, etc.
I really need some encouragement. please help me.

    • Lieim says:

      Hi Karen,
There are certain foods that have natural ability to increase your metabolism such as tomato, apples, peppers, just to name a few. If you want to shed some weight, take a vitamin supplement such as Vitamin B-12. This viatimin naurally increases your metabolism. Also, at any given time, keep yourself moving. That is key. I have found out after having two kids and blowing up to 200 lbs and dropping back down to 130-140 lbs, that weight loss is 90% of what you eat and 10% working out. If you have a sweet tooth like me don’t buy any junk food and if you do decide to eat something sweet make sure it is fruit and only fruit. You need to cut certain foods out of your diet, like sugar or anything that says high fructose corn syrup as the first five ingredients. Sugar is like poison for the body. I have learned that if you make a HUGE salad in the afternoon and snack on that throughout the day, you will shed at least 30 lb in two months. Eat a strict no sugar diet and move around n you will shed at least ten lbs a month for the first three months. E-mail me back if you need help with anything else.

      • karen says:

        thanks for the reply !
I will write again when i feel stuck !! thanks alot

    • Britney says:

You could try making a list of healthy meals your going to eat every night of the week. Look online, have fun with it. Set a time and day that you’ll go shopping to get everything, try finding a friend or family member that will make a meal with you. Invite people over for dinner and tell them your making a great healthy meal, get them excited about it so that you can be too. Having someone to help you make these changes in your life can be helpful, you can also do it by yourself. You could try looking into Women’s Health magazine, there is a ton of information, meals and exercises that could help. Each month there is something new and different, it’s exciting looking forward to the new meals exercises that you could try. Try a new exercise class if your getting bored. I’m not sure where you live, however Zumba is a lot of fun, depends on the instructor; you get a good workout and it’s a lot of fun. There is Hot Hula Fitness, it’s new and mainly on the west coast, look it up and see if its in your area. You get an amazing full body workout with Hot Hula Fitness. If you like to dance Booiaka is also really fun, even if your not a dancer you’ll be able to pick up the choreography easy, also a lot of fun. Again it might not be in your area because, it is somewhat new. There is also Body Combat, boxing, heated yoga is great as well. Good luck:)

    Hi,
I’ve never done this before posting online and what not but I feel as if I am stuck and I need some help/ advice. When I started my weight loss journey I was 97kg I have managed in 9 weeks to shed 12 of these kilos by eating 4-5 smaller meals and including fresh fruit and veggies and drinking water etc and exercising 1-3 times a week. The problem is now that I feel I am stuck at 85 kilos as for the last few weeks I have stayed at that weight and I still have at least 20 kilos to go. I am worried that during Christmas and New Years celebrations all my hard work is going to be ruined and that I may revert back to my “old habits” which I have worked so hard to change
I guess what I am asking if someone has some advice for me to survive the next few weeks without gaining too much weight and any tips I could use to maybe get myself out of this plateau period I seem to be stuck in. Any help would be greatly appriecated.

    Ta
    Sammich

    • Fiona says:

Hey I have been doing lots of reading on weight loss and all that sort of thing and the biggest thing I have learnt is that muscle weighs more than fat. This means that your point at which you dont seem to be losing any more weight is completely normal because it just means your body is building the same amount of muscle as it is burning fat. Dont give up hope you will start losing more weight again but just try your best not to let it slip over Christmas. One thing you can do if you slip and feel like you have eaten too much bad food is more short bursts of resistance training, doing short bursts of strenuous exercise like this motivates your metabolism more and burns fat but does not build as much muscle as long as you do many short bursts of it, its just like with the meals you do lots of a little. Hope it helps :)

  10. Anna says:

    Hello, I`m Anna.
I am 13 years old, 14 in February. When I was little i was always so skinny. But when we moved when I was 6 I started to gain weight. Quickly at that! I am 5`6″ and I weigh 176 lbs.
I`ve tried many excersises and dieting to lose some weight. It hasn`t worked obviously. I don’t know if it’s because of my depression, or if its just my body. I really need a way to lose some of this weight! I am a straight A student in school and I never get in trouble. When I lived in my old house I was always sick because I was allergic to mainly my house! Mold, mildew, dust, dust mites, and animals. We didn’t own any animals but do now. Being I was always sick, I never ate. My mom and sister literally had to shove food down my throat so I wouldn’t die from not eating. Depression came in when I was about 11 when I understood what happened to my father. He was murdered before I was born. I now live with only my mother. She is so hard on me. I put on most of my weight the past few years. I am called ugly at school, except for two people. My best friend in the entire world, and my boyfriend of 4 months. My mother is not supportive of me at all and basically she is a word I cannot say! I need a way to get rid of my tummy and muffin tops. I play softball, soccer, and basketball. I feel like everyone stares at my legs because I have such big thighs. But, I know that they are only big because I am a catcher in softball. Therefore I have lots of muscle.
Does anyone know a good way to boost my metabolism and get this pudge and these muffin tops off? All suggestions would be much appreciated before my life gets any more off track!

    Thank You!

    Anna

    • Arthi says:

      Hi Anna !
First thing i want to tell you is ” DON’T LOOSE HOPE”! you are just 13 years old and you have got the entire future ahead. From the description of your problem i wasn’t clear about certain things but still my advice is here:
      1. Since you mentioned that you were sick and did not have even have the basic diet properly, consult a doctor about the lack of appetite. As proper nutrition is very much essential for having a healthy body.
      2. If you are not sick now and if you are able to eat properly, then eat highly nutrient diet. You know these days junk foods are only costly whereas naturally available high nutrient food are always cheap so that everyone can afford it have healthy life style
      3. Having healthy food and exercising for at least 30 minutes a day should be part of your daily activity ! (like brushing your teeth) . If you don’t have any medical problem then do exercise regularly and balance it with healthy food. Firstly ,YOU should have the CONFIDENCE that you will be able to reduce your weight! You have to set a realist goal and should be DETERMINED and FOCUSED on reducing your weight to the set goal.
      4. wake up early everyday and when you wake up say to yourself ” i will eat healthy food throughout the day and will do my daily exercise routine and will be happy throughout the day” ! say to yourself ” everything will be alright and everything happens for a reason” every time whenever you feel depressed. You will really feel the difference and believe me it works!
      5. Have a habit of drinking water a LOT. drink as much water as possible.
      6. Follow the tips given in this website for increasing metabolism
      7. Regarding your weight loss if you follow the above meticulously you are sure to reduce weight! once you lose weight you have to continue to practice it for the rest of your future to keep you healthy and confident throughout.
      8. Hey Anna, as a general word of advice, don’t bother about what other say… only what you think about yourself matters. Be true to yourself and do the right things (whichever you feel is right for that particular situation) every time possible… Those people who pass negative comments actually are so low and feel so inferior that they find happiness by finding fault in others. So don’t give a damn consideration to negative comments and accept only positive comments.
Love yourself , if you don’t love yourself how can you expect others to love you. feel special about you and always look at things in a positive way. like, even if your mom behaves in a harsh way with you don’t just see it as such, see one step higher, imagine the situation of your mom in what depressing condition she is, taking care of her children being single. even if she is doing something which really hurts you accept it and think its for your good…. your life will really change dear! I have experienced this change.
Lastly have faith in GOD! its He who has designed your life this way so surely there is something good waiting for you. (if you are undergoing so much worries in this young age, that means He wants you to learn the true lessons of life)

      ALL THE BEST DEAR!

      • Deb says:

What great advice this is, except for omitting the curse word, i wouldn’t change a thing. I,would also say keep gratitude paramount in your life, always look for what you have not what you don’t, God always provides when we trust Him!

    • mary says:

      Anna,
I know exactly how you feel, when I was younger I was a lot curvier than most of the other girls in my class and I felt so humiliated, but now I am fourteen and a half years old and I have had a growth spurt and begun to slim down. Most of the skinny girls are now not so skinny anymore either. The same thing will probably happen to you, but even if it doesn’t you shouldn’t worry about what others think if they only want to be mean, even if you do become skinny and “beautiful” they will just find another way of making you feel bad about yourself.
Right now you should just concentrate on maintaining a regular bedtime, eating a balanced diet and fitting in some insidental fitness.
      Good Luck!

  11. Tamara says:

    Dear Reader:
Hello, I am new to this and am not sure that I’m even in the right place – if not I hope you will kindly lead me that way. This past summer brought together the culmination of the severe malnutrition I was living with for what appears to have been several years … wow do a lot of things make sense now. In any event I am on total permanent disability and in the third quarter of a divorce. My funds are limited more than ever before and I would like to know if the manufacturers of ‘Boost’ have a program or opportunity I could apply for to receive this much needed supplement 3 times a day for free. At the end of June 2011, this year my heart simply stopped beating. I had become so severely malnourished my body simply did not have the fuel it needed to function properly – so it stopped beating / flatlined. I was revived and after an extended stay in ICU I was able to return home. Unfortunately, ‘Boost’ is not something I can afford on my very limited budget, but would certainly drink it if I could. It really takes great – good job by the way!
Thank you for your time and consideration, I eagerly look forward to hearing from you and the possibility of being able to participate in a program that would allow me to get the basic vitamins and minerals my body is crying for. Any information, resources, or other information that you think may be helpful to me I welcome with open arms. This is all new to me, a bit intimidating, perhaps even scary, I suppose that sounds silly, but I can feel like it is the first day of school and I become unsure and uneasy of the proper process and protocol.
Have a fantastic day – I’m going to!

    In light & love
    I am ~
    Rev. Tamara

We all know how hard it is to lose weight and to keep it off. Often you need to change your whole eating system by eating healthier foods and looking to eat smaller portions. Funnily enough if you put your mind to it , it becomes easier and easier and disciplining yourself becomes routine. Just keep at it Jess and you will succeed. Best of luck and take strength in how many have succeeded purely by sensible eating and a small amount of willpower.

  13. Marcus says:

I read somewhere that eating six small but healthy meals a day – one portion protein, one portion carbs, and two portions of vegetables twice a day as well – can also help increase your metabolism – does anyone know if this is true?

    HELP!!!
any suggestion would be appreciated and taken on board.

    • Ninya says:

      Hi Tenhae,

I can tell you how I make green smoothies for my self, i.e., for one person.

You need a bunch of fresh green leaves. (For example, Mint leaves, Coriander leaves, Dandelion leaves, mustard leaves, spinach, kale, Dill leaves etc)
It’s very important to rotate your greens. Use different green leaves everyday. If possible, use organic, otherwise, buy fresh leaves from your local markets. Use spinach or radish leaves only once in a week since they supposedly have a lot of oxalic acid in them. But use them once in a week anyway; they are nutrient rich too!

Then you need 2 or 3 fruits. The can be mangoes, oranges, grape fruits, apples, pineapples, grapes, any types of fresh berries like straw berries or blue berries or any other fresh fruit you can find in your area!

For example, just take one whole apple & 2 or 3 berries and cut them up in your kitchen just before making the smoothie.

Now, put your bunch of leaves & freshly cut fruits (you can also add a cucumber or carrot into the mix if desired, but NEVER EVER add sugar or any other sweeteners into this) into a good blender. I mean blender not juicer. You are just blending all the ingredients together with some drinking water. Blend for about 30 seconds if your blender is a good one. Otherwise, you may have to cut up your fruits & leaves into small pieces before putting & also blend for some more time to get a smooth texture. Putting one small banana also will help in acquiring that delicious smoothness. Now you can pour this mixture into your favorite glass/mug & your green smoothie is ready! You can drink it easily if you have added some water before blending. Otherwise, you can eat it with a spoon like an ice cream! Only thing is that it’s not harmful like ice creams!

This procedure is easier than juicing & also you get all the fiber in the leaves & fruits! Green smoothies may sound like a simple thing but it can change your life! One or two glasses in the morning & you will again feel hungry only by 1 or 2 p.m! You will have fresh vegetables, fruits & leaves in a glass first thing in the morning!
I also add one small red or yellow capsicum into my green smoothie. Anyway, everyday, it’s different. Today I made it with fresh coriander leaves, some sesame seeds, 1 pomegranate & 1 apple!

Please wash your leaves very thoroughly if they are not from your own garden.
Wash them in cold water & then warm water (you can use warm lemon water too) to ensure cleanliness since you would be consuming them raw not cooked.

After buying my leaves from the market, I wash them twice in water & keep them in the fridge for later use. Then I take out a bunch of leaves in the morning from it & wash it again in clean room temperature water & then warm lemon water to erase any doubts regarding cleanliness from my mind!

But if the leaves are plucked from your own backyard, you can get away with washing only once before using.

I am suggesting one or two glasses of smoothie as breakfast. After drinking your smoothie, you don’t have to eat a regular breakfast. You can have your share of protein after some time, if you desire. You can have eggs, some chicken or chickpeas, lentils, or cooked beans if you are vegetarian. But drink your smoothies as replacement for your cereal based breakfast. You would not feel like eating bread after drinking your smoothie. No need to drink sugar laden coffee or tea either along with breakfast after drinking your naturally sweet smoothie!

Then as the day proceeds, eat your lunch, dinner etc as usual. But stay away from burgers, bread, buns, any fried stuff, cookies, cakes, candies etc. Avoid processed sugar altogether from your life! Drink water instead of soft drinks. Drink green tea (without sugar) or warm herbal waters like ginger or cumin seed water instead of your normal coffee & tea! Well these are the changes I made in my life & I lost a lot of weight without much effort! Well, cleaning the leaves requires some effort though! I don’t starve at all. I just choose healthier food all the time, that’s all. For example, if I am hungry in the evening, I might eat some carrots or oranges instead of a cheese burger. If I feel hungry after having my smoothie, I will have a boiled egg+ some cooked tomatoes instead of bread & chips. That’s all! And I was able to get rid of my craving because of green smoothies. I no longer feel like eating KFC chicken fries or chocolate cookies. In fact, in cannot believe I used to eat them at all!

      Best,
      Ninya.

Hi, my name is Kim. I’m 22 years old. I turned 22 on September 1st. I used to be skinny when I was a kid and never really ate much, so my mom had to give me some of those ensure shakes. As I grew older, I started to develop severe depression because of school and I also have ADD. It was hard for me because I couldn’t really comprehend what to do for homework, or what the teacher was saying and I tried really hard. My grades were dreadful and every time I had a low score on a test, I would just get even more depressed. School took a real big toll on me, and i’m not going to blame school, but I started to eat more, gaining more weight because of depression. It wasn’t that bad because I used to do a lot of outdoor activities, like bike-riding with my brothers, rollerblading, and riding my scooter. I’ve only done those things throughout my childhood, however, and lost interest when I went to Middle School. I ended up gaining a lot more pounds than usual, and during my senior year of highschool, I weighed about 180lbs, and I basically just stuck with that 180 as I got older. A year later (when I was 19), I found out that there was something wrong with my gallbladder, so my gallbladder was removed. After not eating well for 3 months, I ended up losing around 30 pounds after vomiting whatever was in my system, to the point where I ate nothing at all, because I even threw up my own saliva. I was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks when they removed my gallbladder and when I went back home, I felt much better. However, I dreaded to eat anything greasy or fattening for a few months. But sooner or later, I started to eat the way I used to again, and now I weigh 168.6lbs. I was thinking of starting to go on a diet. I love healthy food, but also unhealthy food. I haven’t really been eating much though since i’m poor and can’t really afford food, so some days, I end up not eating for a day, but not purposely. I want to get rid of my belly fat and also gain some arm muscle and leg muscle. My leg muscles are pretty decent, but I am ashamed to wear anything that may be ‘tight’. I haven’t been active, like working out or stuff for years, and I can’t run very well because when I run, I would have horrible chest pain and would wheeze coughs. I don’t mind walking, however, and I also don’t mind riding a bike. I don’t have a bike now, but riding a bike would be fairly alright.. I’m not sure if it’ll help with my belly fat issue. Can anyone please give me some tips on how to maintain a healthy body-weight? I am 5’6″, female.. obviously, and like I said. I weight 168.6lbs. Any help will be appreciated, and I am dedicated to losing some weight, so i’m willing to take any sacrifices.

    • Ninya says:

      Hi Kimberly,

I have one very strong suggestion–start drinking green smoothies the very first thing in the morning! Green smoothies will help you lose weight by fighting your craving for junk food. Let’s admit it; we all love junk food. Get fresh leafy vegetables & fresh fruits from the local markets & make smoothies out of them by blending in a nice blender. Use only whole fruits, not fruit juices. Also, please do not add sugar or any other sweetness. Fruits already fructose in them! If possible, grow your pea, mustard, dandelion & other young shoots at home in a sprouter for the green leaves. You can use use 2 or 3 different kinds of fruits for the fruit part.

A few months ago, I was also terribly out of shape & miserable; but now, I am super slim (in a healthy way) & much happier in life because of 2 small changes. 1. A glass or two of green smoothie in the morning.
      2. Vegetable soup or fresh vegetable juice depending upon my mood in the evening.

So, you have to make only one sacrifice– effort in the kitchen. Make smoothies at home yourself. Never buy packaged ones. Since you will be consuming them raw make sure to wash your leaves & fruits thoroughly before making smoothies.

So, drink your green smoothies everyday in the morning & observe your junk food craving flying out of the window–just like that! It’s simple.

Also, drink at least 2 liters of water daily & start with mild stretching & simple yoga or normal floor exercises instead of running or hitting the gym. This will build up your stamina so that you can move on to other heavier forms of exercise if desired. As of now, take it easy for a few months & enjoy your delicious smoothies.

      Wish you the very best.
      Ninya.

      You can trust me because

    • Ninya says:

You can trust me because I am speaking from personal experience & was addicted to McDonald burgers & KFC chicken & chocolate milk shakes till I started drinking green smoothies in the morning. Even one glass will do!

Hi, I am 17male 5″11 / 235lbs. I have been trying to become fit for a while now. I want to loose my stomach but when i start to loose weight i seem to gain it back even if i am eating right and exercising. does anyone have any idea of what i can do to loose my stomach?
p.s. i can loose around 15 lbs in a week but next week i gain it back or more.

    • Hannah says:

Its because your loosing the weight to quickly. your body can not adjust. What you are doing is your shrinking your fat cells down, and your body does not have time to adjust so it fills with water. and once you starting eating more calories your body absorbs them right back up, and your fat cells just go back to where they used to be. In order to reduce your fat cells perminately you need to do it slowly so your body can adjust, and truly reduce the cells instead of replacing it with water. And in order to reduce your stomach pudge you need to do cardio with a combo of abs. But when your doing a diet, make sure you stay faithful, its not going to change in one day its a process. So realize in one week your really not loosing 15 pounds. most of that is water weight. ( hence the cells) and when you put weight back on your filling those fat cells. My advice to you is eating as many fruits and vegies as you want, but protein is key!!! lots of lean meats. And also, water water water. and everyone says you cant treat yourself with a treat when dieting. FALSE! your body does need some simple sugars. but everything in moderation. you can make healthy snacks that taste horrible. and you reduce the cravings so you dont gorge. ( try taking an apple then take cinnamon and truvia and melt it , then drizzle it on the apple and bake it! ..or a banana. take a bannan cut it up, freeze it, then blend it up the next day and add some fruit or light syrup and its like icecream!! hope you get to your goal!!

  17. Earl says:

you need motivation to do these low calorie diet. Find someone that’ll motivate you every time so you won’t give up easily…

    • Chris says:

I agree, to lose weight, you need to be motivate , you need to “want it”.

What you have to do though is eat a lot to lose weight (i know might sound counter productive)
Really the secret to weight loss is that everything is delayed.
If you eat one giant meal a day, that meal is going to be stored as fat for energy TOMORROW.
You have 2 options with your body.
      EAT AND STORE FOOD.
      OR
      BURN IT AS YOU GO.

If you burn food as you go, your body has no incentive to store fat, and when you sleep (you are fasting while you sleep) your body will burn fat (while your sleeping).

Then you wake up, and your body is again still burning fat, so every morning you shed pounds of fat.

Then for every 2 – 3 hours eat something small…. an apple, a bowl of soup , turkey slices, ham slices, eggs , bacon, a pannin sandwhchi with chicken, a cup of tea etc… just eat one of these things every 2 – 3 hours… in portions between 200 – 400 calories.

In 3 weeks your metabolosim will be tuned to burn fat every night while you sleep and every morning while you start your day…. (your body will learn to store only as much fat as it needs for the short morning hours)…. and since your body doesn’t keep what it doesn’t use (use it or lose it rule) your body will stop storring fat, because it sees that food is readily available whenever you need it… (so there is no point to store fat)…

Your body adapts to whatever you do to it.
If it sees that you only have access to food for a short period of time per day, it will tune itself to store that one giant meal for later use (fat).
If it sees that you live surrounded by food, it will throw all of the fat away because there is no point to carrying it around….

Think about it as a car.
If you know there is no gas station for 2000 miles, you want as big of a gas tank as possible, this means that you have to hold a ton of gas (fuel) with you to make it where you wana go…. this decreases fuel efficiency because you have to carry the big tank of fuel with you (fat around your gut). so you take your SUV or Truck that has a giant tank or a double tank of gas.

      BUT

If you know that there is a gas station every 100 miles, you can run on a more fuel efficient car with a tiny puny tank (low fat storage) and as long as you stop every 100 – 200 miles (100 – 200 calories) to refuel, you will lose weight because that gas tank will shrink automatically to accommodate the source of energy you use for your body .

  18. Aw, this was a very nice post. In concept I want to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and precise effort to make an excellent article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and on no account seem to get something done.

  19. Kai says:

I used to be around 16.5 stone of pure fat. Was very obese and now I’m just under 12 stone but very muscular. I have also packed on a lot of muscle. My weight loss has been drastic and I’ve managed to do it in in under 9 months but it has been very hard at times. My advice to anyone who wants to lose weight is build muscle and supplement! As well as cardio. Muscle boosts ur metabolism and makes your cardio workouts more effective plus when you see the benefits it’ll give you the motivation to continue exercising. As well as that your cardio workouts need to be high intensity, I can’t stress this enough, I see people at the gym doing slow walks for an hour, this is pointless. If you’re coming out of the gym with your t-shirt only moderately wet (from perspiration) then its a waste of time. Trust me its hard at first but as your routines get harder your fitness levels will improve making it easier for you to maintain these grueling workouts. A typical cardio session for me involves warming up for 10 mins on the bike, then 15 mins mild jogging followed by 15 mins of intense running on incline, with 10 – 15 min on crosstrainer to finish. And don’t forget to stretch and finish off your workout with a bit of ab work (situps and plank).
As for diet, it is important to keep your body’s metabolism fired up. 3 main meals with 3 interval snacks thrown in (mid morn, mid afternoon and evening). I usually eat cottage cheese or a can of tuna as a mid morn/afternoon snack with a piece of fruit. Low fat/cal but high protein. Cottage cheese conatins 4g fat & 210 cals but 30g protein! Tuna <0.5g fat & 130 cals with 34 g protein. I also make sure I get my carbs out the way in the morn and afternoon. Oatmeal for breakfast in a protein shake avec creatine. And either a jacket potato for lunch or wholemeal pasta/bread. You NEED carbs in your diet to maintain effective workouts and for muscle building! A common misconception is you can build muscle without carbs.. You cannot! You'll just maintain not increase. Then for dinner I'll usually eat either chicken breasts and salad or veg. Or soup and chicken breasts.. this diet with plenty of water and fruit/nuts mixed in (when you feel snackish) has for me been a life saver. I feel so much better in myself, healthier in both body and mind, and my confidence has soared as a result. This is just my personal experience on what has worked for me with other people it may work differently. Hope this helps people.

  20. Mr. Metabolism Boosters says:

Great example of metabolism boosting foods. A few others that I constantly reference and keep in mind are coffee, black pepper and a little known trick is to chew gum. The beauty of eating foods that have a metabolism boosting effect is that you are working smarter not harder. Sure the results are not drastic but little by little, it all adds up!

  22. Kieren says:

    Hi

Anyone looking to lose weight, the best way to do it is through a calorie controlled diet.

This is the ONLY method I would personally rely on to get the results I want.

The first thing you need to do is find out how many calories your body needs a day, this will differ depending on your weight, height and sex, I wouldn’t recommend trying to lose weight if ur in your mid teens or younger without consulting your doctor and dietician.

So to find out how many calories your body needs, there is a formula to determine this but an easy way to find out is by letting the tool on this website calculate it for you.

    http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Simply fill in your stats and it will tell you how many calories your body needs, it will then tell you how many calories you should consume on a daily bases to lose weight.

    Hope this helps someone.

I am 120 pounds and am 16. I was told to lose weight but don’t know how. I have hypothyroidism and struggling to lose any weight. I dance 4 hours a day at least. Even on Saturday. Nothing helps. PLEASE anyone with hypothyroidism give me advice. I need to get skinnier but have enough energy to dance all day.

    • Jim Scheide says:

Hi Dancer, I don’t have hypothyroidism but here’s what I know: too much exercise can prevent you from losing weight. Exercising for too long triggers the release of cortisol which inhibits fat loss and reduces the amount of growth and anti-aging hormones in your body.

To prevent this from happening, limit your exercise to one hour per session. If you feel like you need to do more, increase the intensity of your routine. Intensity is key to fat loss.

Resistance training is more effective in reducing overall body fat than cardio, aerobics or dancing. High intensity resistance training is the best. It lowers cortisol level in your body and elevates anti-aging hormones and boosts your metabolism.

      • vivi says:

hi jim, thanks for that advice. you answered a question for me when you said ” Resistance training is more effective in reducing overall body fat than cardio, aerobics or dancing. I had nasal surgery and omg. I gained 10lb due to eating and falling asleep, lack of excersise due to limited to what I was able to do.. So I went on this diet. And instead of losing the 10lb, I gained 10 more pounds. So here is what I found that works for me, I eat in am, snack in friut or oat bar, eat a small lunch, soup or sandwhich and then I eat dinner but I drink 8oz water prior to eating dinner. I always have a snack at 8pm, popcorn or corn chip or a peice of fruit. I am 44 and at the wieght I need to be at. So, if I can do it, you can too..

    I know, do I work out. I do for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. That’s it… Good luck

I try to stop eating by 5 and ive litterally been eating salads all the time now.

Is there any diet plans reccommended for me?

    • Jacqueline says:

I’ve been trying to lose weight to, especially around the leg area. I weigh about 80 and I’m trying to get down to at least 75. You should be eating fiber, protein, and stuff like that to lose weight. If you do starve yourself, it’s not good because your body will go into starvation mode and will get the nutrients elsewhere in your body, causing it to have more fat than muscle. I’m not 100% sure about all of this but I got my information from websites and school. My advice for you is to eat around 1500 calories per day and consume fiber, proteins, etc. Try not to drink calories like soda and juice. Water is 0 calories and is much healthier for your body. If you really want to lose weight, you have to work at it. Good luck!

      • Juan Rodriguez says:

how old are you???? ima be honest with you, if youre under 16 dont try too hard to loose weight, it will make you stop growing, i dieted at an extreme rate at the age of 16 and i stoped growing, i was suposed to be about 6 feet tall but i got stuck at 5’6″ because of that. so unless you are taller than 4’10″ i dont think its safe for you to loose a lot of weight, maybe 5 or 6 pounds but no more till you et older.

For all of you on this site that is trying to lose weight and not eating right.
I am 52 years old and have spent most of my life not eating right. A lot of salads, hardly any fruits because of the sugar etc trying to stay down to my 5’2 110lb weight or when I gained some trying to get back down into my size 0 pants.
If you are going to be on a diet you need to take a good multivitimen as well as a B-100 complex.
I have been feeling bad for probably the last 6 years, depressed, stressed and not sleeping well. My hair had started falling out and breaking off.
Within 3 hours of taking the Biotin, I felt like someone had flipped a switch. Within 3 weeks all the symptoms were gone. Still working on the hair which has finally quit falling out but I’ve learned the hard way that if your not eating right, TAKE VITIMINs. My matabelism now is so messed up that I can only eat about 1,000 calories a day without gaining weight.

    • Ryan says:

Jacqueline you are right for sure!….so Nancy That is awesome there is nothing wrong with salads (as long as there is no dressing on it) so what I am reading is the 5pm thing so stop that first off like for real the earliest I stop is 6:30pm sometimes 7pm but I do not eat past 8pm no matter what! The Metabolism is an amazing thing once you get that up and going right after you wake up it ll just go all day…the one IMPORTANT thing to REMEMBER is ONLY eat every 2-3 hours with something healthy like an apple or pear oats something every 2-3 hours drink lots of water 8 glasses at least stay away from soda just go for aqua that is all I drink.Spicy foods also good, egg whites I love very good protein I start off with one every morning usually.Make sure you are motivated and well you sound motivated keep it! your Metabolism will help big time I did it I am a male, 20 years old, 5’9 and was 230 pounds…14 weeks ago now because I follow a very strict diet that I made up myself usuing protein and metabolism I dropped 50 pounds in 14 weeks I am 180 right now with 20 more to go so, You can totally do it, I would do about 1500-1800 cals a day for me I do about 650-800 cals a day. there is also a website called( livestrong.com )check it out if you want more info on just about anything it really helped me big time its awesome!!!!!

sorry Jessica i have to disagree, nothing beats home grown freshly picked from your own garden that day, and fat free doesnt alway mean tastless and boring, oniken vanilla no fat yoghurt on fresh fruit or with granola is very tasty and satisifying… and theres nothing wrong with a little of what you fancy even if its bad for you but in moderation thats the key.

That’s probably the problem. Before trying to change the body, we’ve got to change the mind. Nothing’s going to work if you think vegetables are shitty, and tasteless. • Trelos77 says:

Your body is a physics engine. The weight is stored in you “Beer Belly” because physically this is the easiest place for your body to carry the weight. Because of this, it is also the LAST place a person will lose weight from. The only thing I can tell you is to turn up the intensity on your Cardio. Run, a lot. Sit ups build up your ab muscles, but they do NOT get rid of the body fat over top your abs. You have to do 20+minutes of cardio per day to burn some decent body fat. You won’t see results instantly, but eventually you will notice more and more under you belly as your abs muscles and more come into view. Once your body fat is low enough you will see veins where your “Beer Belly” used to be, that is when you know you’ve truly arrived. (See Cam Gigandet in the movie “Never Back Down”)

  32. Ash D says:

    Hi Little White Boy,

Eating McDonalds constantly won’t always make you gain weight! It may be that you eat 2,000 calories a day but you might just have a naturally high metabolism that means that you burn off the calories during the day!

If you want to gain weight: increase your calorie intake- I mean a balanced diet, not constant Big Mac meals!) and increase the amount of barbs you eat.

If you are hitting the gym and want to get size you have to commit to it- I’m talking about going down 4 or 5 times a week. Work your muscles in pairs (I do biceps and chest, triceps and back, legs and shoulders- usually throw abdominal work in the leg/shoulder session).

To gain size you need to be doing low rep near your max weight- eg if your max lift on chest press is 80kg, you need to try and do about 4-6 reps on 70/75kg.

To gain strength you need to do about 8-12 reps. If your max is 80kg you want to be aiming for 8-12 reps on about 60/65kg.

To get tone/definition you need to increase the reps to about 18-21 and have a low intensity weight- eg max 80kg, you do about 35-40kg..

Keep working and you’ll be buff for freshman year!

    Hope this helps!

Okay so i eat MacDonalds constantly but never gain weight…but at the same time i go to the gym with my mom and never gain muscle. I do get enough protein, but i cant figure out why this is happening, i just want to be buff by my freshman year of collage.. any help??

    • joel says:

stop eating Mac Donalds. Start eating fruits and vegetables like snacks replacing all the bad stuff. And exercise using your own weight. Don’t drink alcohol or sodas. Drink LOTS OF water or fruit juices that have no added sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Eat pulses, grains, nuts etc. Exercise- push ups.pull ups etc. anytime u have. Stop watching TV. Exercise instead. Get fresh air!!! Its a radical but easy change.
Trust God!!! Have fun!!! Get buff and feel good about it! Because you will be healthier!

    • Juan Rodriguez says:

drink milk, chocolate or strawberry milk, and eat bread and things made with or by bread, donuts, pizza, french toast etc… things like that.

    • Hi White Boy,

The truth is, everyone’s body is different. It’s great you have a fast metabolism however chomping down McDonald’s five times per day simply can’t be good for you. Keep working at it and surely you will see results.

  34. Amy Doe says:

I have the slowest metabolism on earth. I inherited it from my father’s side. It’s hard to find one specific sport to focus on too. I’ve tried martial arts, swimming, tennis, basketball, soccer and I’m telling you, no weight loss whatsoever (well my legs became nice and shapely but my belly just wouldn’t lay flat). Do you suggest any physical activity that would reduce belly fat and arm fat?

    • Ash D says:

      Hey Amy,

One of the most annoying things about the human body is that it chooses where the fat goes, not you.

Likewise, when you play sports etc it also chooses where it comes off as well! (as you have probably seen with your legs)

The best thing you can do is keep going with the sports, preferrably interval training (2 minutes low intensity then 1 minute high intensity for abotu 15 minutes) on a cross trainier or running! You will find the fat will slowly go (I was average build, now I am pretty stripped and lean – found mine went from my arms, then my legs, then my belly).

Like I said, the biggest pain is that no specific excersise will get rid of fat from a certain area of your body so keep working hard, try and add in some interval training, drink 8 pints of water a day and try to cut down on too many carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, potatoes etc.

Hope this helps and good luck!

The only exercise I get is the wii. help, I need the magic pill to lose weight and throw one in so I can walk again.

    • Kris says:

I empathize with you. I was in a wheelchair for a short period of time, from a stroke i was paralyzed on the left side of my body, and after a long hard slog at rehab, I learned to walk and talk and eat etc and it depends on your personal circumstances you need to be at your optimum health to assist when you start walking again. I would hope that your husband is empathetic towards you to help you reach your goal My partner at the time I had a stroke decided it was all too hard and left me, his loss I say, however I had another stroke 8 months ago,no paralysis I have several other side effects that require medication with side effects of weight gain due to slowing the metabolism. I have put on30 kgs very quickly so I will give this a go and see if i can’t reverse the effects and increase my metabolism and keep you posted on this method, sounds good,
I wish you all the best on your recovery, Kris

    • Amber says:

It is a list that is easy enough to put into my diet i like this I also herd (not sure how effective) that green and red bell peppers help with appetite control so maybe this will be good to put in there with all those calorie burning foods!

    Hello,
I am 38 and disabled with server back problems as well as I am super morbidly obese. I know that I have let my self go and it is my fault, but I have realize that no one but me has to live this life and I am the one that is making it harder on me. My metabolism is so low that the diets i have tried in the past has desperately failed. I am not able to exsercise the way I need to because the doctor has said that the only thing that is holding my spine together is the weak muscles surrounding my vertebreas. He says that i need to lose a hundred pounds before i can really excercise to lose the rest of the weight that I need to. I really need help! Is there any advice to help me or any foods the will increase my metabolism greatly that way I can get my life back cause I really dont want to die?

    • Costi says:

      Hey man, try this routine.

In the morning: drink juice of 2 lemons in 1 bottle of water (1 litre approx). Use sweetener if you want, but NOT sugar!!
drink green tea (again, use sweetener if you need, but not sugar).
eat a small proteine meal (some turkey ham, low fat cheese).

Drinking these and eating proteins in the morning should give a boost to your metabolism.

Also: drink other 2 litres of water each day and have veggie/soup snacks every 3 hours or so. Also you need to eat yogurt or other diary products. If you don’t manage to eat only vegetables (maybe you are used to eat stuff that taste better) start with easting half-half. This way you will feel full with eating less.

    • Paul says:

Try doing more search on fruits and veggies. I have heard that grapefruit is a fruit than burns more calories to digest than it contains. There is a lot of good advice in here. Ultimately your mind is in control. Look at some NATURAL appetite suppressants that will provide nutrition. Not the quick fix advertisements You can do this. Wish you the best!!!

    • Annon says:

Slowly cut down on calories, eat a healthy breakfast with a lot of protein (egg whites, grapefruit, kiwi, turkey bacon, chicken, other fruits an vegies) eat a small snack in between lunch. Eat a healthy lunch with some complex carbs like wheat bread. Wheat bread an tuna with a tbsp of low fat miracle whip is a great lunch. Eat a small snack in between lunch an dinner an for dinner get a little less protein then breakfast with little to no carbs. Eat 5 times a day, take multi vitamins, take fish oil, stay away from simple carbs, stay away from sugar, stay away from anything fatty unless its nuts, drink coffee in the morning, drink green tea with your lunch, try to get to the ultimate goal of 1200-1500 calories a day, drink a lot of water (8-12 glasses a day an whenever your hungry in between meals) eat at least 1 spicy meal a day (it will increase metablilsm by 25%) an the best way to lose weight is to ask yourself why you want to lose it. Really dig deep down inside yourself an find the answer. If its “because I don’t like the way I look” or “because I want people to notice me as good looking” then its not the right answer. Keep asking yourself why you want to look good or why you want people to notice you’re good looking until you find the real reason. An emotional reason that only you know about. That is the key to motivation. Please feel free to e-mail me with question or your progress. I would love to hear about it or help you.

Hi, I really feel for you Tonya. I am 65 and have a huge tummy problem. I have just started an eating plan, NOT a diet. It means eating 6 SMALL meals, high protien with a small amount of carbohydrates, per day. You will not be hungry, and this will boost your metabolism. Also, (see your doctor first), try the “lemon and cayenne drink” (google this and find out more).. Having cups of green tea and glasses of water also helps clean out your waste-matter, helping in wieght loss.

I have been the overweight kid since I was about 10 and I’m nearly 20 now….No matter what I do I can’t seem to lose weight. I’ve tried diets, I was in sports from 4th Grade until I graduated, I’ve worked out lifted weights anything you can think of. I don’t eat that much but I have seemed to accumulate 350 lbs. (probably more now) I am 6’4 but I still hate seeing myself like this because people say “Well you’re tall you have more to fill out.” Well obviously I’m almost to the end of my chain with that. So what I need is tips, tricks, sooooomething to help me. I want to change so bad for me and my family and just overall be healthier, and I want to do that in a healthier fashion, no pills no miracle diets like atkins or something because well trust me that DIDN’T work. So please only constructive criticism that’s all I want………

    • I too have always been heavy and as a kid my mom had me on every diet there was at that time. i am 63 and still fighting all that extra weight. but i wanted to tell u that i started out maybe 6 months trying what one of my doctors told me. 8 ounces of v-8 juice a day and i was eating jimmychingas( spelling), the steak and cheese ones, not much else. some fruit and i could eat other meals sometimes without feeling deprived of food. i went from about 300 lbs down to 263. when i stopped eating that way, i went back up to 273. so i have to start over. it is the easiest “diet” i was ever on. i take vitamins. multi, vit e, vit c. calciumwithd, and i can tell when i am out of these things. this might help u. altho i think everybody’s body is different.. i have a lot of medical things wrong with me, so i really do try to take better care of myself. I had cancer 3 times, diabetic, fibromyalgia, arthritis(2 kinds), bi-polar and depression and that is just part of it. but if this can help you, i would be happy for u u are so young. hang in there sincerely wanda price.

I’ve cut back on the no-no foods, but ever since Menopause ended, I seem to be gaining pounds instead of losing. Ten years ago, I weighed 140 and I just weighed in at the doctor’s office at 167. This is the most I’ve ever weighed in my life. I’m 60 years old and would sure love to lose at least 25 pounds and feel as good as I did 10 years ago. So, I’m going to try the foods listed (except for grapefruit and hot peppers) and change out my workouts to see what happens.

This is a new style diet that works great, the name, Fat Loss 4 Idiots. Check out the review that I have done of the diet that is really built to boost metabolism.”

Reduce your caloric intake it needs to go down as your weight goes down to keep losing
use an online caloric calculator , after you input your info , current weight height , activity level ect and how much you want to lose in what amount of time it will gfive you the number of calories to take in each day, and you will lose weight if you follow it , and reach your goal, good luck :)

    • Suzanne says:

I think this is just a typo. If there was an ‘s’ on the end of the first word ‘day’ it might make sense. Eg: “Another good way to raise your metabolism is to try a new diet that cycles calories with some on days and other days off of your diet”. I could be wrong but I think that is the problem and the name of this style of diet is called “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”. I hope that makes sense now.

    • Suzanne says:

Good on you Lydia. You are quite inspiring. I am not at all sure about the idea of reducing calories at the moment. It is quite common for people to reach a plateau at times throughout the process of losing weight. With time your body becomes more adjusted to your new lifestyle, ie taking in less calories and using up more energy. Your metabolism becomes slower and your body more efficient and during this plateau it is as though your body is waiting to see if this is a situation where you may be going into a famine in which case it needs to be prepared for “starvation”. This of course means the body will need to take longer to burn what calories it takes in as a survival mechanism. However, if the body finds that there is plenty to eat, no threat in the future, the metabolism will get faster and start burning up those calories once again. So you need to increase your calorie intake at this stage but wisely of course. Perhaps you could take in more protein-rich foods since you are doing a lot of exercise but I would suggest asking one of the trainers at your gym about what are some good foods to add for your particular situation. By all means see if they agree with what I have said. The way I have explained this is my way of understanding it though I have heard it explained ‘chemically’ and ‘nutritionally’. Even if you decide not to take my advice on increasing your calorie intake I would suggest you discuss the idea of reducing your calories with a doctor or dietician before you take action. I see it as potentially dangerous to keep lowering your calorie intake as you lose more weight. It is setting up a cycle in which you would be eventually starving yourself.

  48. Katie says:

Weight loss is a hard thing. If it was an easy thing then everyone would be doing it. It also doesn’t happen over night. It takes time and persistance. You cant give up!

Justin- The foods to help boost metabolism will work for men and women. The amount of calories that you should consume a day depend on a couple factors. One factor is how much you currently weigh and how much you want to loose. The recommended calorie consumption a day is 2000 calories. But that is if you want to maintain the weight you are currently at. If you want to loose you need to cut back a few hundred. Another factor that needs to be considered is how active you are on a day to day basis. If you are running 5 miles a day then you are going to need more calories than someone who walks a mile everyday. Food is energy and if you exerting alot of energy then you need more food.

To all those who are exercising and dieting and not loosing weight- I have struggled with weight loss for over 7 years. I started reading books and educating myself on what I was really eating and how it was distroying my body functions. I found out that everything I thought that I was doin to help myself was wrong! For example, I would eat lean cuisenes for lunch and slim fast meals for dinner. Helathy right??? WRONG! Those are all prosessed foods and prossessed foods are a big player in why americans are overweight. Another example, anyhing that says “diet”, “lowfat” is sooo dangerous! You would think the first step to dieting would be to eat diet and low fat foods. Well let me inform you that these foods can be labeled lowfat because they substitute sugar with an artificial sugar. Artificial sugars such as aspartame do serious damage to your bodies systems. Same goes for bleach flour, high fructose corn syrup and all the chemicals and perservitives they put into our food. The stuff is DEADLY!

I am not an expert but have learned alot over the years. My advice if you want to loose weight is to read up on this stuff and find out what you are really doing you your body. You can exercise day and night but if you are not eating right then you will never loose weight. Nutrition is HUGE!

    • Tia says:

Katie- you are SO right and I needed that reminder. It is absolutely amazing how we are so accustomed to believe advertising statements and we are being lied to. FRESH FRESH FRESH is really the best way to go. And can I just get on my soapbox and say that cow’s milk is terrible for our bodies as well? I did some research due to a child with special needs and found out how bad dairy is. These cows are malnourished, sickly, pumped full of hormones, antibiotics and steroids. If you think about it, we cant take meds and breast feed our children, so why would we take breast milk from a cow that has been pumped full of toxins?? Cow’s milk is meant for a baby cow, to plump them up quick, not for human consumption. We are the only species to drink another species breast milk- yuck! It causes allergies, exzema, abnormal cell growth (ie. cancer), etc. PLEASE PEOPLE, research this! There are sooo many other options! Almond milk, rice milk, coconut milk and soy milk (though I am not a huge advocate of soy) that’s a whole other story. LOL! Anyway, education is vital and knowledge is power. We can’t leave our health to the government, look at our fat/unhealthy leaders!

      • Jason says:

This is not true!! I was at one time engaged to a dairy farmer and there was no steriod or hormone pumping. At when any cow was on antibiotics or just gave birth they were milked last and that milk went to a seperate machine to be discarded.

Instead of doing research, why don’t you just go out and watch with your own two eyes!!

  49. Justin Shanahan says:

How come they only mention women? These should work for men too. Men also need to lose weight. Apparently, according to my female cousin, men on a diet need to eat more calories than women do. I don’t know if that’s true and does this article aim for both men and women or just women?

    • Amber says:

Men as a rule should be able to eat more than woman if there isn’t any underlying problems my husband can eat almost 400 more calories than me keep in mind he works out hard. Just try to make sure those calories you eat are healthy calories if u eat junk you will feel like poo!

  50. marie says:

i have been counting calories and fat for the last 2 wks, plus joined the gym, why am i not losing any weight,,,,

    • Tia says:

I did the same thing. Just stop looking at the scale, love. It is very discouraging and right now you need motivation, Watch your clothes and how they fit. Sometimes it can take up to a month to see results because your body is balancing the fat/muscle change and your muscles will retain water until it finds its equalibrium. If after a month, start researching what your eating and make some changes, Until then, numbers don’t mean much ;-) Hope this helps!

  56. Marie,

You just have to condition yourself to make healthier alternatives and this does take some time to do. The best thing to do is to not even have the “junk” foods around you…and after a while you will not even miss it. After a long period of time those same foods might even make you sick.

  58. Start out by making small changes in your diet everyday until it becomes part of your life. The idea is not having to “think” about eating healthy…it just becomes part of you. This was the way I was able to lose so much weight.

It will be those times when you want to give up, but just keep your mind on the big picture. Always ask yourself…is this going to be beneficial to helping me meet my weight lose goals?

Don’t punish yourself if you make some poor choices one day. Just make sure that you make better choices the next. It’s all about gaining momentum. If you start thinking this way…you have a higher chance of being successful.

Hi guys, I am a 41 yr old Disabled Veteran with severe back and neck pain so I don’t exercise super hard, but I do exercise. Try doing push ups from your knees for exercise and vary the width of your hands/arms. Also, the “Perfect Push up” is a FANTASTIC way to do push ups, even from your knees. Also, celery with PB and Raisins is a GREAT snack, along with apples that are crisp and sweet. Really, it’s all about portion control and eating high protein foods and lots of fruits and veggies with small amounts of seasoning so you don’t retain water weight. I drink Sugar Free Kool Aide instead of just water and it is very good, you can’t tell it’s sugar free, I promise. I have about 40-50 lbs to lose and if I can manage 2-3 lbs a week, I will be happy. We all have to remember, we did not put on this weight over night, so we can’t expect to lose it over night either. Try the GI Diet, the Glycemic Index is the basis of Nutrisystem and several others. It really works and the book spells it out for you along with giving you grocery lists, etc. Good luck to you all, and God Bless you.

    Regards

  62. Jessica you can first start of by changing your metabolism with your current eating plan. Exercising helps but it all starts with what you are putting in your body. Always remember that small changes daily in your diet will go along way in your ability to lose weight.

Be patient because it does take time to lose weight. I like the idea that you are trying to do it the natural way…which is the best way to go.

  67. Raisah,

You are correct! Make sure that it’s small meals that you are eating. Even if it’s just a healthy snack….that’s why it’s best to pack food with you instead of eating out., because you are in control.

I am 46, and have been putting on weight for last 12 years. On and off I go on a diet and exercise. However, when i exercise (last year i did about 1000 claries a day on ellipticals). I restrict my deit to salads and soups. However my metabolism is so slow that i barley loose 2 punds in 3 weeks. My friends exercise same as i do and the y shed pounds like crazy.

Once i get frustrated and get off the schedule, i gan more than i loose. So that is how i ended up to 245. Since last month (sept. 15) i have not had rice or wheat (or any carbs). I have lost a couple of pounds and I exrecise to about 600 callories a day, But the rate is slow. So people tell me that by doing these on/off diets, i have screwed up my metabolism. Being s vegeterain, they say that i dont get anought protins to increase my meta. Is that true? should i resume eating chicken, which i gave my since 1999?

I am so tired of this process, but if i quit now, 275 is knocking on my door :-(

  90. Afsheen says:

If you want to lose weight then you need to CUT DOWN on all sugary foods and oily foods.Once you do that, start exercising everyday. You can sign up for an online calorie diary, and note down everything u eat n drink on it, and it will keep you updated as to how many calories you have consumed and how many are left.
And an imp thing to remember , eat your dinner early, make sure you dont anything 2 hours b4 your bedtime. Your metabolism is fast in the day time and slows down as evening sets in, so no food before going to bed.

Drink lots of water, set your goal and stay positive and focused. Make a routine, and Follow it. All the very best you guys!

Any suggestions for alternative treatment. I know my metabolism became very slow because I overate while being inactive for 3 years. How can I boost my metabolism to quickly burn at least 25 lbs. ????

  94. Body Type says:

You also need to avoid severe calorie restriction, as that will severely slow metabolism and also make you hold onto your fat reserves more aggressively. Coffee before exercise is said to increase calorie burning. However, how much you can boost your metabolism by any method will also depend on your body type. Endomorphs generally have a sluggish metabolism and really need to use exercise such as high intensity interval training to boost their metabolism.

I am on the “Master Cleanse” which recommends we don’t eat any solid foods at all. Instead, drink 6-12 glasses of a concoction with lime juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. And have a laxative tea at bedtime and a salt water flush in the morning (this part is for the colon cleansing). I am surprised that with this drink, I don’t feel too hungry even though now its been 4 days since I had any solid food. But I do have a worry that this might slow down my metabolism and that when i start eating again, i will both gain weight and feel tired a lot. I like to know if this is something others have experienced or have knowledge about (real knowledge, not theory or hearsay). Thanks.

This may be a little off topic but:
A question keeps arising in my mind, if metabolism is spurred by aerobic exercise, which means more oxygen being used by the muscles, would/could the process be accelerated by the use of hydrogen peroxide? (More oxygen = more metabolism. Food grade 35 percent H2O2, about 20 drops in a half cup of juice, can be drank or diluted to 3.5% and breathed from an atomizer. What do you think? Would the muscles work easier with the increased oxygen, use up more calories and cause higher metabolism? = MORE FAT LOSS? Anyone have some thoughts on this? hey, everyone i have been stuggling with the same 5-10 lbs for a long time now. i finally found the answer and have been able to keep that wait off and ten some. the secret is colon cleansing (the natural way) and keeping negitive calorie foods in ur diet ( not to mention portion controll and will power) my daily diet consists of 2 fruits for breakfast, a salad and a fruit for lunch (no salad drssing, but if u must use only fat free, and no more than the serving size on the back of the bottle), and a veggie soup, salsd, and a fruit for dinner. if i do decide to eat something other than this it wil be a tiny bite, just enough to satisfy my taste buds and not everyday. i have keept of 20 lbs for 3 years eatig like this, and im in the best shape of my life. the real secret is just to find smething that woks for you, and to not get depressed or down. if u ever do start to feel down, look up to the sky and pray, pray with all ur might and have faith, and God will see u through, and He will show you to healthy weight loss and a better, more energized life. Goodluck to all and remember to keep the faith in God, i will keep all of u in my prayers. ;-)

I have a client who has lost over 70 pounds over the past 3 years. It started when he quit smoking. He dcided that when he got a craving, he would either drink water, eat a fruit or vegetable, or go for a walk. Not only is he healthier, he is also much richer. He figures he has saved over $36,000 in that time…or about $1000/month. He is able to save this money by not buying cigarettes, not eating out, cutting his life insurance premiums in half (by qualifying as a healthy non-smoker) and by saving on gas by walking where he used to drive.

  131. Tim says:

If you are exercising a lot you need to eat a lot. I’ve tried starvation diets, and they work for the short-term. A quick 10 lb weight loss in 2 weeks is from your body eating up more muscle than fat. Not good. I went to Thailand a few years ago where is was really really hot. I was 205lbs when I went there. I had no car and walked everyday. The food was amazing. Fried noodles, fried rice, rice porridge, pork omelets, etc. Just about everything I ate I made sure was very spicy. I found myself eating 4 or 5 times a day. After the first 3 months on this diet I noticed my weight was down to about 200. For the final 3 months of my stay I bought a nice pair of running shoes and began jogging in this intense heat. I started playing soccer and basketball whenever I had time. Without changing my diet at all, I came home at my lowest weight ever of 175. I dont know how my cholesterol was with all the eggs and pork I was eating. My metabolism was kicked into high gear. I ate so many tasty foods (the only oil used over there was palm oil). I think I can attribute my weight loss to the frequency of meals, frequency of exercise, loads of water (over a gallon a day), and the hottest peppers I ever ate (but loved). Also, the frequent 100+ degree days with 100% humidity probably helped too. Sadly, I shot back up to 200lbs after 2 months of coming back to the states. Driving everywhere, eating fast food. I still exercised, but not as much. I strongly feel that prepared foods are causing people to gain and hold on to their weight. In Thailand, 99% of the foods I ate came from fresh ingredients. Nothing canned, no frozen dinners, no fast food, no preservatives.

I just read another article about this same topic here Foods That Boost Metabolism and found that their suggestions were very similar. The only food I’m not sure I agree with for boosting metabolism is soup. Soup, particularly if it is of the instant or canned variety, typically contains quite a bit of sodium. Also, I find that the portion sizes vs. calorie content of soups are very tricky. For example, I bought a bunch of Campbell’s Healthy Choice soups the other day thinking they were low cal, but when I got home I realized that those calories were only for half a can, or a third of a can, instead of the whole thing. Oh well, lesson learned. Thanks for these great tips. I learned a lot from the posts here too, thanks everyone.

Hey, there was some talk about calcium being a metabolism enhancer…. but no talk about milk. Does milk count? I hate it… but i’m willing to drink skim or whatever if it works! My little story: I cut out…. everything. Not very healthy. I had a glass of orange juice in the morning and one in the evening. For lunch I would have lettuce and tuna. That’s basically all I ate for 2 weeks and I have lost 13 pounds… but now i’m stuck and I dont feel very healthy. Oh yeah, I ride my bike a pretty good distance to work and back every day so that may have helped a bit. I am realizing that I was not eating healthy and my body thinks we’re in a famine so my metabolism is dropping like mad… bad idea. I really think this metabolism and portion control is the key. I’ll give it a try! I’m a 21 year old male…. and should be in my prime… however I’m positive that I hit my prime when I was 14!! So i’m trying to get healthy again to have a real prime! Thanks all for the words of encouragement! And thanks for this great article! Ps: morale of my story = starving yourself will work for a few pounds, but you will destroy your metabolism and plateau (the worst!) and then when you give up cuz you havent lost any more weight… the pounds will come back 2x as easy!!

I am an ex smoker, too. 21 days today. I quit smoking because I need surgery to replace a torn ACL in my right knee (among other things). Apparently the ligament graft (due to the co2 ) won’t take if i smoke. It was the final wake up call. Also, in the same call was the doc saying “you carry around some extra weight, you know, that’s hard on knees”.

So, here I am – awaiting knee surgery, 50 lbs overweight, scared of gaining another 30 (i gained 30 of this weight the last time i quit smoking and never lost it), eating the smallest, most healthiest portions of all of these foods listed above for over a month now, and working out (with a bar and bands the best i can, given my knee) every day.

It’s been a month since my injury and 21 since the wake up call. I haven’t gained any weight yet. Haven’t lost any, which amazes me because compared to what i ate and drank i was sure i’d see some loss.

I am hoping that means something, because I need some positive results. I couldn’t be more miserable. I can’t walk, I can’t smoke, I can’t eat, I can’t drink. What else pleasures do I get, or is this really it. Life is now officially over as I knew it.

I am *trying* to look at it like this -but it is so damned hard: if I dont manage this, it will be 80 lbs i have to lose. 50 is unimaginable enough.

i was looking at myself one day and realized that i had gained a lot of weight in the past couple of years, so I saw a fitness expert and this is what he told me. in the morning, eat a bag of potato chips, ice cream and a 40 oz beer. just before lunch, have a few slices of bacon. At lunch eat a pork loin with some fries, a chocolate bar, a ham sandwich with mayo and mustard, then drink a bottle of ranch dressing. Then for dinner, eat two t.v. dinners, a large pizza, and drink a 2 liter of coke. Just before bed, have a large bag of marshmallows. Using this diet, I was able to drop 20 lbs in four months!

I was a junk food junkie who knew, at 40, it was time to take better care of my body. Luckily, I also love fruit and vegees. I lost over 30 lbs. in under 6 mos., feeling better than ever. I happened across a fast in my Nutritional RX book (Bach), which I refer to for everything. I never did the fast, but here’s what I did. It says that 3 days before and after fasting, eat all raw food to ease your body into and out of the fast. I didn’t do 100% raw, but here’s what I ate for over a week, which changed my taste for so much junk…ALOT of salads with spices, olive oil, and fresh lemon or lime juice(I got very creative), ALOT of fruit. I allowed myself a little cheese, nuts, egg, or beans on some of the salads for protein. You can also make protein powder drinks…SPIRULINA is a great healthy supplement found in some protein powders, and it curbs sweet cravings and is high in nutrition. I also ate HEALTHY whole grain bread with a little olive oil, brown rice with sauteed vegees, and other whole grains. I admit, I got hungry alot, BUT, I got to eat WHENEVER I wanted, because almost everything was low-fat. The biggest secret for me is high flavor herbs and spices, satisfying the taste buds. After a few weeks, I started adding back meat and everything else over time, but my eating habits changed and I don’t crave so much junk food anymore, and I’ve kept the weight off for over 2 years now!!!

I told myself i would try it but did not expect it to work. In one month i lost 10 pounds!! omg.. I completely changed the way I ate. It was really hard at first.. I felt hugry just the first 4 days.. after that it became a routine and I changed it to what I like.. The book stated to cut out salt and each meal no more than 400 calories. thanks to Mrs. Dash and olive oil.. I am now 20lbs lighter.. I just have the problem of eating a cookie once a week or so.. I need that so it wont make e feel so deprived. My husband lost 15 pds. I still cant believe how much weight i have lost. I eat anything just in moderation and calorie counting.. it works for me.. After going through a divorce…the pounds were coming off great (unfortunately thanks to the stress!). But after a year and they are creeping up on me again…fairly fast. I have always heard that 5 smaller meals is great for boosing the metabolsim. It’s just the point of getting there. Growing up as a teenager I looked like a bean pole but ate ANYTHING I wanted. So still, years later… it’s hard getting into that mode. I will definitely try to consume more water and eat more meals…but smaller and healthier. Thanks for the Adivce!! (And to the person about commenting about getting off the computer and jogging….I regiously excercise 4x a week (1/2 hour to an hour). And without eating properly…jogging only stablizes your weight. Living proof.

I went to the doctor back in late September because I was experiencing a tingling in my fingers (I’m 49 years old, & 5’3″ tall). After my exam and blood test He told me that I’ve got high cholesterol and high blood pressure and I was 20 pounds overweight.
That was a wake up call for me and I went cold turkey for a lifestyle change. I was a big drinker but now I’ve cut my alcohol consumption to a glass of wine once a week on the weekends.
My usual daily foods consists of, green tea (2-3 cups), egg whites, apples, seaweed & tofu soup, turkey or fish, sashimi (no sushi with rice), oatmeal, hot peppers and water.
I get plenty of excercise at work for I work at a sheet metal company but I go for a walk and I do about 15 min of ab excercises when I wake up in the morning.

Now I know that food deprivation is not a good diet, choosing the right types of foods you eat is my way of life now and I don’t crave the burgers and beer anymore!
I was 185 pounds at my initial examination in September and now I’m down to almost 165, nearing my goal of 155. Thanks to your tips, Billyboy, I can lose the weight and live a little healthier.

Hey guys…Just wanted to share some encouragement. I know how hard it can be to lose weight and body fat cause i was there but i disciplined myself and started eating right and now 4 months later, i’ve dropped 5% body fat, lost fat weight and toned my body up really nice. I have a meal plan that consists of high protein for breakfast (usually eggs and a protein shake) a couple of small snacks between dinner (veggies, fruit) and a healthy, small portioned dinner. Also, Drinking COLD Water boosts your metabolism so drink up that water!! also, check out some health food stores or gnc type of store for some scientifically advanced weight loss pills. i didn’t think they’d work at first but now that i’ve seen it for myself, i believe it

  152. Steo says:

I reckon I could do what’s on the list, I’ve been trying to get rid of 6kg for a while, and invariably put it back on haha. Gonna join a gym, but my lifestyle and eating habits could take some advice from this page lol. Most of my diets are two weeks of nothing but fruit and vegetables, which I have no problems sticking to – I don’t lack willpower, but the weight just doesn’t go dammit haha. Congrats all!

Hey guys, I am 220 pounds…. I look at myself all the time, and i feel hate, i hate the way i look, it’s just so hard, and i would need a good suggestion FAST!

  154. Ant _ South Africa says:

Jess sounds like u starved urself….anyhow. I disagree with u on the eating plan, as eating that amount of food and also exercising does not balance. Ur body won’t be able to keep up and eventually you will just dump the exercise.

My advice as I am a triathlon athlete is to eat portion controlled healthy meals 5 times a day add green tea and water (Oatmeal in the morning is of utmost importance as this kicks ur metabolism into action). When training drink a energy drink such as energade/powerade diluted with water to keep u going…add 2.5% to your training schedule until You have increased it to 75%. Then rest for a complete 2 weeks.

Well that is my plan and I have had no failure. Chow

  155. nawal says:

hi every1.to lose weight main thing is portion control and exercise either strenth training or jogging.and eating metabolism boosting food will keep u on right track.having honey 1 tbsp in one glass of warm water b4 going to bed increases ur metabolism and burns fat even when u r sleeping.and the same honey tea with 2 tsp of lemon juice first thing in the morning just boosts up ur metabolism,so give this a try and whenevr u eat oily or fried items have a cup of warm water after eating.give this a try and see how u lose weight.tc..

  156. Jess says:

I had to lose 10 pounds in 9 weeks to join the Army National Guard, and my recruiter suggested this diet/exersize plan:
Breakfast- 1/2 a grapefruit. Lunch- salad. Dinner- One serving of lean meat (tuna, steak, or whatever). I was not allowed to add any sauces or dressings or ANYTHING to ANY of my meals. All I was allowed to drink was water. That’s right, no juice whatsoever. I found that cheese in the salad works well for adding calcium to the diet, but don’t over-do it. For exersize, I was instructed to do the following: When you wake up- do as many push-ups as you can (if you can’t do push-ups, start by doing the similar motions against a wall, then eventually, try it on your knees on the floor, then do them normally). Mid-day- Repeat the same procedure with the push-ups until you can’t do any more. Before bed- Repeat the same procedure with the push-ups until you can’t do any more. Any time during the day- go out running, jogging, walking, or bike riding for an hour. Remember to always stay hydrated with water!
Just to let you all know, I managed to lose the weight, and I’m in the Army National Guard now! This plan really works! But, as with all diet plans, you MUST be consistent. It will be hard to adjust at first, but you will get used to it. I promise.

  162. Bill Nad says:

Great for you! I have written a few times before how I think people already eat too many carbs and I think that just replacing some of those carbs with protein is all people need to fix their meals for the most part. Well maybe that and portion control

    Hi Louise,
I understand your misery, I was in the same position 4 months ago. I gained 14 pounds after i gave up smoking.
I just started drinking lots of water, took up running (especially in the morning)
Also eat lots of vegetables, fish and calcium tablets
Running has really helped me to forget about smoking altogether. My health has really improved.

  168. Louise says:

I have recently given up smoking. I eat a very healthy diet and include fibre, protein, fruit and veg in my diet and a little calcium every day.I go to the gym 3 times a week and do about 45 mins of cardio and 20 mins of weight training each time I go. I also enjoy yoga once or twice a week.Sinse giving up smoking I have put on 10 pounds and I can’t get rid of it! I have tried green tea and cutting out the very small amount of dark chocolate I used to enjoy every other day. I’m now contemplating starting smoking again as I’m so miserable that I can’t fit into most of my clothes anymore. Please HELP!
